  1. ASHLAND, MA -February 11, 1992: Legacy Storage Systems is pleased to
  2. announce the release of the Legacy M.A.S.S. HFD NetSpan, a new generation
  3. SCSI based storage subsystem specially designed for the Novell NetWare
  4. operating system. This newest member of Legacy's "Hot Fix" storage family
  5. can incorporate RAID Levels 0,1 or 5. The Legacy NetSpan connects easily
  6. to file servers via a SCSI bus and can hold up to 12 industry-standard
  7. hard disk devices with a total capacity of 12 Gb in one storage
  8. enclosure.

  10. The Legacy NetSpan will be exhibited at NetWorld Boston, booth number 1527;
  11. "drive failure" and "hot fix" drive replacement demonstrations will be
  12. given during the show.

  14. The subsystem provides true "hot fix" capabilities with device-mounted
  15. trays that can readily be replaced without the need to power down the
  16. system or interrupt the network; drive rebuilding is transparent to all
  17. network users.

  19. The Legacy NetSpan will appeal to those users who require the highest
  20. levels of performance and data availability for their mission-critical
  21. applications, such as in on-line transaction processing. With a transfer
  22. rate of 10 Mb/sec., easy serviceability and a high level of fault
  23. tolerance, the Legacy NetSpan is ideally suited for the banking, airlines,
  24. and health care industries.

  26. The Legacy NetSpan can also be an integral component of a corporate system
  27. downsizing scheme, by providing mainframe data reliability at a fraction
  28. of the cost.

  30. Legacy Device Drivers Enhance NetWare SFT's Features
  31.  
  32. Legacy device drivers enhance NetWare SFTs features (RAID Levels O and 1)
  33. with no need to reset the bus during the initialization of a newly
  34. replaced device. An "optimization utility" of the device driver improves
  35. disk space utilization and file access times.

  37. Legacy device drivers come standard with every Legacy NetSpan subsystem and
  38. are complemented with an NLM server-based backup management software. A
  39. basic configuration is comprised of six 480 Mb hard disks with 3 drives on
  40. either side of a NetWare span and includes a DAT tape drive for additional
  41. security; dual industry-standard SCSI host adapters are also provided to
  42. eliminate a possible point of failure; and, newly enhanced high surge
  43. "power sharing" power supplies extend fault tolerance levels.

  47. For users who require a RAID Level 5 solution, Legacy M.A.S.S. Array
  48. Software for Novell NetWare is available. Other options include additional
  49. hard disks and up to a total of 4 power supplies.

  53. user community with NetWare's own RAID Level 0/1 capabilities. RAID Level
  54. 5 certainly has its place depending on the specific application and the
